Matt McLaughlin has spent US$200 to propose a ballot measure to make it legal to execute gay men and lesbians by ‘bullets to the head,’ or ‘any other convenient method.’
The initiative titled the ‘Sodomite Suppression Act’ reads, “Seeing that it is better that offenders should die rather than that all of us should be killed by God’s just wrath against us for the folly of tolerating wickedness in our midst, the People of California wisely command, in the fear of God, that any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification be put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method.”
The bill would also ban “sodomistic propaganda” and fine those in violation of the ban up to $1 million or sentence up to 10 years in prison. The lawyer said that if the law is not enforced (once the bill is passed), citizens should be able to assassinate gay people outside of the law and not have to face charges from the state.
Vikram Amar, a professor of law at the University of California, said:“Something like this will ultimately never become law because it blatantly violates the state constitution and the US Constitution. There’s no question this is not even going to be a real thing, but the question is at what point do you put an end to it.” So far, almost 12,000 people have signed a petition asking the bar association to disbar McLaughlin.
